Newsflash – Point Break Drama’s Emily O’connell Runner Up at Tropfest Jnr

A huge congratulations to Point Break Drama’s, Emily O’Connell who received a Runner Up award for her short film, “The Cascades” at this afternoon’s Tropfest Jnr.

Tropfest Junior is a prestigious short film festival, that has hundreds of entries from all over Australia each year. Emily wrote, directed and composed music for the film, and cast fellow Point Break drama actors Ellie Gall, Caitlin Diaz & Chelsea Bennett.

Well done girls!

Long term Point Break Drama student, Emily O’connell will have her film, ‘Cascades” screened in the Tropfest Jnr final this coming Sunday 19th February. Emily wrote, directed and composed music for the film and cast fellow Point Break Drama actors, Caitlin Diaz, Emily O’Connell, Ellie Gall & Chelsea Bennett.

Point Break Drama Girls In TropFest Junior Final

Point Break drama Acting School is very proud to announce that Emily O’connell’s short film, “The Cascades” has made the final cut into TropFest Junior Final. Trop Jr, 2012 will be held at The Domain in Sydney on Sunday 19th February as a lead -into Tropfest. Emily O’Connell has studied acting at Point Break drama for 5 years. The show starts at midday with the screening of all 13 Finalist Films. Emily Oconnell directed ” The Cascades”, which also features long term Point Break drama students, Caitlin Diaz, Ellie Gall & star of the upcoming Pj Hogan Film, ” Mental”- Chelsea Bennett.

Review of Point Break Drama End of Term Teen Performance

On the 15^th December Point Break drama held their End of term performance night for the kids and teens stage classes. The room was set up as a theatre in the round, filled with nervous/excited performers, beamingly proud parents and anticipating spectators. The show began with an introduction from the newly elected captain of Drama, Will Mcinnes, reminding ‘everyone to please turn off your mobile phones’.

The first performance group of the night was the youngest class of Point Break Drama,who came to the stage with confidence, ready to entertain. They brought smiles and “awww”s as they drew the audience in with their cuteness.

The Wednesday teen class was up next, their execution of ballerina’s, slaps and glue were brilliant, demonstrating their developed skills.

Tuesday class showed off their fun side with comedies duologues. The Audience got the pleasure of hearing this line “Once he got mad and scrunched up a bunch of waffles…… that is intense”, and seeing some very cheery male cheerleaders.

The Wednesday and Thursday Kids classes both did a great job also with comedies. There were some “skinned rats” (due to bad hair cuts) some computer haters at the RTA, and some hard hitting facts “girls always act like jerks when they like you”.

The final group of the night was the Thursday teen group, whose complete commitment to their characters launch their scenes into the audience receiving laughs all round.

A stand out performance of the night was a duologue performed by Felix Stawman and Josh Rushton, that was utterly hilarious but truthful and believable at the same time. A time warp story about a boy who finds out that instead of the teen hunk he thought he was, he is a nerd (“devastating”).

All in all it was a very entertaining and enjoyable night and every performer should be proud of their great work.

Point Break Drama students hit Short & Sweet play Fest

For the third consecutive year, Point Break Drama Acting School will appear at the Short and Sweet short play festival at Newtown. This years play, “Tis the Season” is once again written by the multi-talented Judy Judd-Sandwell. ‘Tis the Season’ is a hilarious farce about a director trying to get the desired performance out of his amateur troop. The cast is Ilya Levy, Tara Alagich, Ursula Paddon, Paula Williams, George Trippis & Emily O’connell.
